The Phillies haven’t made a big free agent move – yet – but they have been busy getting minor league free agents signed and in some cases, re-signed to deals for 2011. They’ve also kept themselves pretty busy filling out the coaching staffs for their minor league clubs, but there is still a lot to decide.

Veteran catcher Erik Kratz joins Phillies organization

Erik Kratz was one of the great stories to come out of the 2010 Triple-A All-Star Game at Coca-Cola Park. The veteran minor league catcher left the game earlier than expected, but for a good reason; the Pirates decided to purchase his contract and they wanted to make sure he stayed healthy. After nine minor league seasons and over 600 minor league games, Kratz would finally be a major leaguer.

Thompson could be September surprise

One of the types of players that the Phillies love to bring to the big league club each September is the type of guy who can pinch-run and make things happen on the basepaths.  Names like Chris Roberson and Greg Golson made late season appearances in Philadelphia and were relied on to handle baserunning chores when necessary.
