For the rest of the minor league season, the Phillies will look to Bruce Sutter to evaluate the pitchers at both the Triple-A and Double-A levels of the system. Sutter was hired by the Phillies on Monday and is scheduled to work just through the rest of the season, at least as things stand now.
“Over the next several weeks, Bruce is going to help us evaluate our pitching staffs at Lehigh Valley and Reading,” assistant general manager Chuck LaMar announced on Monday. “Having someone with his expertise who can help us with our prospects is outstanding.”
There was no immediate indication as to whether Sutter would be hands-on in helping any particular pitchers or if he will simply take a look-and-see approach to evaluating what the Phillies have at the upper levels.
Sutter entered the Hall of Fame in 2006.
